A good diet has a profound impact on learning at school. Proper nutrition plays a vital role in cognitive function, concentration, memory, and overall academic performance. Here are some ways in which a healthy diet positively influences learning:

Improved Concentration

Nutrient-dense foods, particularly those rich in complex carbohydrates, provide a steady source of energy to the brain, promoting sustained focus and concentration during lessons.

Enhanced Memory

Certain nutrients, such as omega-3 fatty acids found in fish and antioxidants in fruits and vegetables, support memory and cognitive function.

Mood Stabilisation

A balanced diet helps regulate blood sugar levels, which in turn can reduce mood swings and irritability, leading to a more conducive learning environment.

Boosted Brain Growth

Adequate nutrition, especially during childhood and adolescence, supports healthy brain development, which can contribute to improved cognitive abilities.

Improved Attendance

A well-balanced diet contributes to a strong immune system, reducing the likelihood of illness and absences from school.

Heightened Alertness

Proper hydration and consumption of essential nutrients help students remain alert and attentive in class, optimising their ability to absorb information.

Long-Term Cognitive Benefits

Establishing healthy eating habits in childhood can lead to lifelong cognitive advantages, supporting academic and career success.

Better Sleep

Nutrient-dense foods can contribute to improved sleep quality, ensuring that students are well-rested and ready to learn.

Athena will allow you to track information about your meals and more importantly what people have chosen to eat.

This information, subject to GDPR and data privacy laws, can be shared with parent and guardians who may have a valid concern about what is being eaten during day or even to help with their own meal planning outside of school dinners.

Natasha’s Law

Athena is proud to help organisations adhere to Natasha’s Law a UK legislation introduced in memory of Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, who tragically died from an allergic reaction to an unlabelled ingredient in a pre-packaged sandwich. This law requires kitchens and food sellers to provide full ingredient and allergen labelling on pre-packaged foods for direct sale. The Athena plays a crucial role in helping food businesses comply with Natasha's Law by ensuring accurate and comprehensive allergen and ingredient information is readily available and easily accessible.

There is no one size for all, some establishments have kitchens and some bring food in from external kitchens. Others only provide meals from vending machines or light touch cafes.

Athena can support any establishment with any food capacity for:
